    Frequently Asked Questions

    What are your fees?

The cost of each 60 minute session is $150 HST included.

Will my insurance cover your services?

It is recommended that you contact your insurance company to get information regarding your particular coverage. My designations are Canadian Certified Counsellor (14374) and Naturopath Designation (ACNN 21-6631). Be sure to ask your company about these in particular. We do not direct bill insurance companies. After payment, you will be provided with a receipt which you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.

Are you a provider for my EAP program or other services?

I am a service provider with the Non Insured Health Benefits for First Nations and Inuit Program and Qalipu. I am registered with the Service NL Employee Assistance program and the Newfoundland and Labrador Teachers’ Association Employee Assistance program. I provide services for members of the RCMP and through Workplace NL.

How will I know if you are a good fit for me?

It is very important that you connect with the style and approach of your counselling therapist. I will check in with you at the end of each session to ensure you are benefitting from our work together. If you feel that we are not a good match, I can provide you with a list of other local mental health care providers. Please do not hesitate to discuss any questions or concerns that you may have.

How often should I attend therapy sessions?

Together we will decide what course of action is best for you. Many clients have weekly or bi-weekly appointments during their time in counselling or therapy. Other clients may only require a couple of sessions. The number and frequency of sessions will depend on your treatment plan and therapeutic goals. I take on a limited number of clients at a time to ensure that you get the best possible support. I spend hours preparing, researching and doing professional development in my areas of specialization each week.

What can I expect at my first session?

At the start of your first session I will review informed consent with you, which involves explaining the limits of confidentiality and establishing some guidelines. You will be invited to tell your story and I may ask questions to learn more about your history. Generally, by the end of the first session we will have a sense of what your needs, concerns or goals are, and where to go from here.

    What is EMDR therapy?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) was developed in the 1980’s by Francine Shapiro and was used extensively to help combat veterans heal from symptoms of PTSD. Since then, EMDR has been accepted as an evidence-based treatment for a variety of mental health problems including anxiety, depression and symptoms of panic. EMDR is one of the top therapies recommended for PTSD by the World Health Organization, The American Psychological Association, and others.
